snow covered mountain road

Some days you get up, get ready, grab your pot o' ham n beans and open the door...only to discover snow and sleet have been coming down with wild abandon while you slept. And that Jack Frost is still making an honest effort to turn the Earth's palette (at least your little corner of it) to a monochrome. A scene akin to an old silent movie, except the piano music has been replaced with the occasional curse word when you're trying not to fall and spill the beans.

Your slog out to your, now white, vehicle finally complete; you tell yourself, "Hey, I've got 4wd. It'll be fine."

Two semi's involuntarily off the road and a couple of miles of standstill on the interstate later, you decide you'd better head slowly back to the safety of home.

Despite your white knuckles and the alarm bells you've nearly gone deaf to; you feel bad.

The road's not safe.

The way is too hazardous.

It's too scary.

Yet, as you turn back, you have that hollow feeling you get when you've let someone down.

That's a short synopsis of my morning.

I made it home okay. Safe and sound. No one ran into me. (That's usually my biggest worry when driving in storms.)

Thanks for asking.

It took a few hours to regain some peace. So, I stayed busy with household chores. Physical activity usually settles me down.

Since then I've spent most of the afternoon thinking...and working on this website. I've neglected it.

Its embarrassing how long its been since I posted a blog...or worked on part three of "Souls of War."

"Life gets in the way."

I've been listening to motivational speakers on my way to work. There's a jagged little gem about procrastination that I was a little shocked into action by...I'll share it with you.

Paraphrased in my own words...

Imagine a goal that is truly important to you.

Go ahead. I'll wait.

Imagine you need to make this happen...no one is going to help you BUT you.

Fitness, nutrition, career, school, relationship, finances, creative projects...

Whatever you dream, and then plan out, becomes a goal.

With the investment of time and hard work...you can achieve your heart's desire.

This promise of fulfillment is often not quite enough to inspire us to take the steps required for the journey toward our goal.

Now, picture a gun to the head of someone you love. Not yourself. But, a family member or friend who means the world to you.

To save them...you must work towards your goal.

That's all.

Time and hard work

Take the steps

Work your plan.

Now you'd be doing EVERY thing you could think of to reach that goal.

Pretty harsh, isn't it? A terrifying, heart wrenching image....

All you have to do for them to be set free is take steps toward your goals.

I think that's all we need to do to set ourselves free.

I'm not always that good about it. Sometimes, I get that hollow feeling because the someone I have let down...is me.

See your dream.

Set your goals.

Time and hard work.

Take the steps.

Work your plan.

I'm committing myself anew to my journey...

Every day.

Not just...

Some days.
